I'm getting sooo close to rebuilding my digital music library - I have all the music I want for now and got all the album covers sorted. Currently re-creating my spotify playlists, one of the barriers to moving away from Spotify for me is that I've used it since 2012 when it came out in beta mode and I love having the record and history of my music taste and playlist creation. But I'm putting in the time to create a version of it that I actually own, and my husband bought me an iPod Classic for Christmas that we're going to mod together with a new battery, 1TB of storage, and some fun mods like haptic sensor and transparent faceplate so you can see its guts.
I've also been spending time reading up on personal media libraries and Jellyfin, and I think a 2026 goal for me is going to be to build my own media platform and stop paying for TV streaming. I have a good grasp on the software side of things but I'm not as good at the hardware stuff so still need to do a ton of research to figure out what all is needed, especially to do it in an affordable way.

Spent the night before solstice sauna-ing with a great group of friends, then spent all day yesterday skiing for opening day on our local mountain! Some of the most enriching activities for cold, dark days; my body is tired in the best way. I miss the biting, frosty cold of Alaska sometimes but I still just love spending time in the snow.

Spent about 7 hours today starting to sew a pair of overalls for my spouse, don't have a ton to spend on gifts this year so my solution was to finally aquiesce to a request he has had for years! They're starting to come along and I honestly love long days spent sewing without distractions or interruption.
This afternoon the possum who lives under our shed came up and sat at my feet, I was starstruck.

Working on migrating away from streaming music aka trying to source physical media (or mp3s) to create a real music library again. And then maybe buy an iPod Classic? I just want to actually own the music I like again and stop giving shitty streaming services my money but I unfortunately was an early adopter of Spotify in 2012 and have so many playlists/collections on there that I want to preserve.
No real snow here yet and I am absolutely craving cold weather and skiing, the reflection of the light on the snow, and warm breath against cool air.

Been dealing with some health issues that make me feel fatigued all the time and it is driving me nuts not being able to be as active as I normally am and feeling guilty about not putting much time into friends/my community. Downloaded AC Shadows so that's what most of my time outside of work has been going to... wish me luck recovering quickly and being able to do fun things again!

It is making me feel crazy how normalized plastic surgery is becoming and how many people I interact with see that as a positive or neutral thing. As a teenager, I felt like we were making strides in accepting different types of beauty or even just focusing less on beauty in general and it feels like we're moving backwards. Because what even is beauty and why do we love it?
Is something beautiful by nature, by visual, or by the response it invokes? Is art beautiful by itself or is it the story, emotion, or technique? Whether it's sharing photos, videos, or other forms of art, we're so inundated by images of beauty that it begins to overwhelm the allure of the everyday. Missing the trees for the forest, and the leaves for the trees.

Sylvia Plath's fig tree but I'm shoving every fig within reach into my mouth and letting the juice run down my chin.

Big weekend for a first blog post - woke up on Friday to the news that the German government approved our application for reclaimed citizenship (yay EU passport and visiting family more often)!!
Then had an Over the Garden Wall watch party at our friends' last night, one of my favorite traditions of the season.
The chilly air and rains have finally started, giving some much needed indoor chill time. Excited to feel snow in the wind.
